Museum of cultures of Oaxaca

This museum is located in the ex-convent of Santo Domingo and is one of the top museums in Oaxaca. It has 14 permanent rooms for Archaeology, History, and Ethnography, with thematic rooms and temporary exhibition rooms. Most of the archaeological objects were discovered in Oaxacan territory and some of them are more than 10,000 years old. An ideal place to learn about the history of Oaxaca from its beginnings to the present.

November 20th Market

21 minutes walk

Just 14 minutes away from the Temple of Santo Domingo. We highly recommend you visit the traditional November 20 market, which is divided into two. One side is specialized in food and the opposite side in handicrafts. Here you will find the best of Oaxacan snacks, from the typical tlayudasto a wide variety of moles, plus it is an excellent place to buy authentic Oaxacan chocolate.

Macedonio Alcalá Theater

12 minutes walk

In the evening we start to approach the hotel passing through the majestic Macedonio Alcalá theater, considered one of the most emblematic venues in Oaxaca and one of the most important theaters in the country due to its elegant architecture. It was built in 1909, and after various names, in the 1930s it was finally named Macedonio Alcalá in honor of the Mexican composer, author of the waltz “Dios Nunca Muere”. Today, you can enjoy different events, such as live streams of the New York opera, and different local acts.

Mezcaloteca

After this great walk, the route pauses at the Mezcaloteca, a place dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of traditional mezcal and its biocultural processes. Here you can try different types of mezcal, learn about the production processes and the master mezcaleros. A shot of mezcal cannot be missing on your visit, since it originates from Oaxaca and is considered the most perfect alcohol for human consumption.
